I have been affiliated to the tutoring business for more than 10 years now however my online tutoring experience is not more than 4 years of age. I have worked at different websites and with different students from all over the world. I have done Masters in Arabic and my aim while tutoring is to provide assistance to the student to such an extent that the student should master the concept. I believe that learning any language is not a piece of cake. Learning a language needs attention and more and more practice therefore while tutoring my students I ask them more and more questions; ranging from easy to the hard ones.
It is said about Arabic language that it is hard to learn but easy to master. Arabic language is not only hard for those learners who are not familiar with the Arabic alphabets and the dialect but also for all the non Arab speakers because of the complex sentence structure and the grammatical rules. Whenever I taught a student my aim had been to make him the most familiar with the basics of the language and then move on to the complex forms instead of beginning from the complex things where most of the language tutors fail while teaching their students.
We all know that online tutoring is far different from face 2 face tutoring and the reason for the same is that students are not very much aware of the new technology used in this method. Normally tutors use pen and paper while teaching their students but in online tutoring system digital board is used that some students consider difficult for learning and even at time it is hard for teachers to teach through it. The use of digital pen and tablet is not possible for every student because not every student have it also there are sometimes problems like low internet speed at teacher’s end or the student’s end or might either of them have lost the headphones etc., such type of issues result in the loss of interest in learning sessions. However if a tutor plans his session with full attention and prepares a targeted lesson plan for particular student, then there is hardly any possibility that that student will ever loss his interest in the lesson rather he will remain indulged fully in the session and will definitely grasp proper hold on the concept.
While teaching online I give my students time to get used to the technology. I also use pictures and graphics in my teaching sessions so that my student does not feel lost in the words alone. Furthermore I include different type of questions such as fill in the blanks, short questions answers, comprehensions and the correction of sentences to know about the level of understanding of my student every now and then.
I not only teach my students through the conventional methods but I have certain new games and techniques for making my students more involved during the session such as use of flash cards that allows the students to memories the name of the objects while associating its shape in his mind instead of just repeating the word and then forgetting it after some while. I normally start teaching my students with the alphabets of Arabic and the vocal sounds for each letter because the sounds of Arabic letters are not found in any other language. For instance there are two sounds for letter “K”, three different sounds for “th” so on and so forth. Therefore in order to learn any language it is the most important thing to begin with the very basics of that language before proceeding towards the harder things.
After introducing the students with the alphabets and dialects I then proceed towards the formation of sentence beginning from easier then moving towards the harder and complex form of sentences.
Finally I would like to say that Arabic is a vast language and it cannot be mastered in a couple of months however the basics can be learnt within few months.
